PAPER For signature pages, I recommend cardstock 8.5 x 11, 80lb (my printer has a hard time printing on anything over 80lb, I feed it 1 page at a time, and I do not have a laser printer and I get by very well!)
For planner inserts, 28-32 lb paper is best as it is thicker than traditional copy paper and accepts inks and stamping well. 32lb Paper (smooth, thick) is a great choice. ...or the cheap alternative 28lb paper which is a bit rougher but still thicker. If you plan on using the collage sheet for something like Mixed Media Art I would suggest using card stock paper about 65lb or heavier.
I love printing out on a canvas cardstock. It makes it look original!
PRINTER For best quality I recommend using a laser printer. If you don't have one, print shops like Office Depot and Staples will gladly print what you need. Call your local store for their email address to send them the file along with instructions on how you want it printed OR take it to them in person on a USB flash drive. I recommend Office Depot because you can easily order your prints online and have it waiting at your local store for pickup. But if you want to print from your personal inkjet printer I do suggest you check the following before printing
Be sure to check your ink cartridges are full
Be sure that your printer can handle the type of paper you are printing on (such as 12 x 12)
Print your files at 300dpi for a 8.5x11 size paper
Set your printer to print at it's highest quality.
The most common issues that arises when printing Digital Collage Sheets are that they print too small or too large. These issues can be fixed easily by following these 2 simple steps.
Download your collage sheet directly to your computer. Do not print from your web browser.
When you you print your collage sheet from your computer make sure that the "page scaling" setting is set to "100%" . Do not select "Fit to Print", when "fit to print" is selected your collage sheet will print smaller.
Resizing Your Images On Photoshop elements
I use Photoshop Elements 10 that my daughter gave me. Open a document Go to Image Resize Image size
Scale Styles (uncheck)
Constrain proportions (uncheck)
Resample image (checked)
I choose inches for the document size, if you want the piece to by 5" x 7" you will double the width to 10" and the height will be the same at 7". Keep the resolution size at 300.
Check to see if it has deformed the picture in any way that you won't be happy with, sometimes words come out a bit squatty... Short and Fat or elongated looking.
If changing to a Travel Journal size (which is usually 4.25 x 8.25) so to resize to this size you will double the width to 8.5 and the height will be the same at 8.25". Keep the resolution size at 300.
Make sure you go to File Save As and give the document a different name and hit save.
When printing in Photoshop Elements you will use:
for paper size you'll select letter (8.5×11)
print size you'll choose 'actual size'
This will maintain the new dimensions you just gave the image.
